“As you set out for Ithaka,
hope your road is a long one,
full of adventure, full of discovery.”
The opening lines of Kavafis’ poem Ithaka resonate deeply with how I view not only my career but life itself. They remind me that the journey—rich with challenges, triumphs, and lessons—is more meaningful than any single destination.
When I announced last September that I would step away from my role as technical director for one of the world’s best teams at the end of 2024, I felt a wave of mixed emotions. As I shared in that letter, my time with the Spanish team had exceeded even my boldest dreams. Together, we reached milestones that I will cherish forever. But deep down, I knew that to keep growing and evolving, I had to venture into less familiar territory.
Leaving wasn’t easy. I had built a career and a life within a team that I hold close to my heart. Still, the call for new challenges and fresh discoveries grew stronger. I began to explore exciting new projects, including founding The Paddle Games, an initiative to bring innovation and renewed energy to the sport. Together with a good friend—exceptionally talented and bright—I ventured into developing and refining unique paddling equipment under the name Fox Performance, designed to enhance high-performance competition. These projects fulfilled my passion for innovation, but I also wanted to continue guiding and inspiring teams in their pursuit of excellence.
This is why the opportunity to work with Paddle UK felt like the natural next step. The warm welcome I’ve received from everyone has been incredible. I can already see the possibilities before us, and I’m eager to contribute to something extraordinary.
As I embark on this new chapter, I carry with me the lessons and experiences forged along the way. I embrace the uncertainty, the challenges, and the discoveries yet to come.
To all those I’ve worked with, to those who have supported me, and to those joining me on this new adventure, thank you. While the road ahead is unwritten, I wouldn’t have it any other way. I hope for a path full of adventure, full of discovery.
